What is Floating?

Good question! A float tank is an enclosed tub filled with 500kg of Epsom salt dissolved in 30cm of water. This abundance of salt creates a buoyant environment which allows you to float effortlessly on top of the water. The water and air are heated to the same temperature as the surface of your skin, creating an indistinguishable boundary between the two. After settling in, you will begin to feel weightless and forget about any physical tensions. The tank lid can remain open or be closed to create a light and soundproof setting, immersing yourself into the complete sensory deprivation experience. There are few places where you can replicate this environment but we doubt going to outer space would be as carefree as a float tank!

After your first float, you may wonder how something so simple can have such a profound effect. The benefits of floating are backed by over 30 years of research, pioneered by Dr John C Lilly – physician, neuroscientist and overall explorer of the mind – in 1954. Today there is widespread scientific evidence supporting the many benefits of floating and the usefulness of Dr Lilly’s invention has proved to be far greater than its initial purpose. Floating is now recognised as an effective tool to elicit the body’s relaxation response, help balance stress hormones, enhance meditation practices, soothe chronically tired muscles and joints, help achieve excellent sports performance and more. Let your float experience facilitate your transcendence!
